BIOGRAPHY
Susan Neuman is President of the Environmental Insurance Agency, Inc. (EIA) in White Plains, New York. EIA provides expert environmental risk financing services such as environmental insurance brokerage, policy drafting and underwriting in a variety of contexts involving environmental exposures, particularly contaminated property transactions and Brownfields. Ms. Neuman’s skills as a coverage attorney and her experience in policy drafting has enabled EIA, since its inception, to ensure the success of numerous contaminated property transactions. EIA also can offer the full range of commercial insurance products, risk management consulting and general insurance services.
Prior to forming EIA, Ms. Neuman was head of Contract Development in the Specialty Lines Legal Department of the Home Insurance Company. At the Home, she ensured that forms and endorsements issued by the company were legally sufficient, and drafted and developed numerous insurance policies for the company, including many of the new environmental insurance products which began to be marketed in the early 1990’s. Prior to her experience at the Home, Ms. Neuman was an associate in the Environmental Practice Group of Lord, Day & Lord, Barrett Smith. There, she acted as coverage council for several environmental insurance carriers such as AIG and drafted a number of their environmental insurance policies.
Ms. Neuman has testified as an expert in many environmental insurance coverage actions. She has spoken at several bar association conferences, EPA Brownfields conferences, and other environmental conferences on the new environmental products and their use in the Brownfields context. She has published extensively in the field, including a revision of the chapter on environmental insurance coverage in the Matthew Bender Environmental Law and Practice Guide (April 2001).
Ms. Neuman has a B.A. from Smith College, a Ph.D. in English from New York University, and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
